Rahm Emanuel was elected to the United States Congress from the 5th District of Illinois in 2002. He chaired the Demcoratic Congressional Campaign Committee when the Democrats won back the majority in 2006, and was elected Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. In November 2008, President-elect Barack Obama asked him to serve as White House chief of staff. Bruce Reed writes a political column for Slate and is President of the Democratic Leadership Council. Both Rahm Emanuel and Bruce Reed served as top aides in Bill Clinton’s 1992 and 1996 campaigns and held top policy jobs in the White House.
